Since the projects initial start in 2017 (under Mkaa Endelevu), the business has developed from concept stage to start up and post start up business. This section gives an insight on the current production status and potential for scaling up vis-a-vis source of raw materials and market access.

Products

Firelighters

A product known as wood wool firelighter is in high demand in Europe subject to certification of the wood source. The product is produced by making wool from shaving wood and then roping it into long twisted ropes. These are then dipped in wax and cut to size and packaged in high-end packaging. This product is used in all seasons as it works for BBQs in summer and Wood Stoves in winter. It’s also very popular in camping as it’s waterproof.

Charcoal Briquettes

Our charcoal briquettes are made by carbonizing waste wood. The product is used primarily to BBQ and is very popular in Europe (specifically Germany) during the summer months. We now produce store ready products which means it is packed in 3kg-10kg bags and then palletized on slip sheet cartons. The product arrives in Germany store ready. Our product lights quickly and burns hot for up to 2hrs which is the requirement in Germany. We also strictly adhere to the DIN 1860-2 Standard for charcoal briquettes and have facilities for testing our product to ensure quality remains above the standard.

Markets

We are now currently under the EPZA (export processing zones authority). We are pushing our products primarily into Europe but are now looking at the UK and USA as potential markets especially in the firelighters.
